As one of the two traditional pillar snack industries in China, the candy industry has maintained rapid growth, with its potential market share continuously expanding. In the past five years, China's candy market has maintained an annual growth rate of 8%-12%. By 2011, the scale of China's candy industry had reached 62 billion RMB.

While the domestic candy industry is expanding, various types of international candies, such as health-oriented, low-sugar, fun, and eco-friendly varieties, have been accelerating their collective push into the Chinese candy market. In comparison, China's candy products appear very single in variety. Under the dual pressures of foreign companies closing in and intense domestic competition, product development in China's candy industry faces significant obstacles.

Competition among domestic candy companies mainly remains at the price level, and their development in new areas is clearly insufficient compared to foreign investment. Severe product homogenization hinders domestic candy companies from competing with foreign brands, resulting in profits far below those of foreign brands, and forcing domestic brands' main battleground down to second- and third-tier markets.

It is worth noting that the global annual per capita consumption of candy is about 3 kilograms, whereas in China it is only 0.7 kilograms, indicating tremendous development potential for the Chinese candy market. The breakthrough for domestic companies should focus on product renewal, continuously launching new products and diversifying product varieties. China's candy industry faces a demand pattern of small products and a large market, with candy manufacturers currently in a phase of structural adjustment, product renewal, survival of the fittest, and corporate restructuring. As the market operation of candy products shifts from product competition to marketing, the candy industry has entered an era of brand competition.
